Namaste. I am Rohit, a guide. I have been helping pilgrims for the past 8 years. Every week, someone asks me the same question: "Bhaiya, Ayodhya ke liye kitne din chahiye?" How many days are enough for Ayodhya?
The honest answer is — it depends on what you want. Some pilgrims come just for Ram Lalla darshan. They arrive in the morning, have darshan, and leave by evening. Others want to walk every lane, visit every temple, and sit by the Saryu for hours.
I have guided hundreds of families through Ayodhya. I have seen people do it in one day. I have seen people spend a week. And I can tell you this — for most pilgrims, 2 days is the sweet spot. One day for the main temples. One day for the quieter sites. And if you want to combine it with Varanasi or Prayagraj, you add more days.
This guide will help you decide exactly how many days you need.
Let us begin.
What Determines Your Duration
The number of days you need depends on five factors.
1. Your Primary Focus
If you only want Ram Mandir darshan, one day is enough. If you want to see all the temples, ghats, and lesser-known sites, you need more.
2. Who Is Travelling With You
A solo traveller can cover ground quickly. A family with young children cannot. A group with elderly parents needs rest breaks.
3. Your Starting Point
If you are coming from Delhi, you lose 8–10 hours in travel each way. If you are already in Varanasi or Lucknow, you have more time for darshan.
4. Whether You Are Combining Cities
Ayodhya is often combined with Varanasi (200 km), Prayagraj (165 km), or Lucknow (135 km). Each addition requires extra days.
5. Your Pace
Some pilgrims walk fast. They cover five temples before lunch. Others walk slowly. They sit at each temple. For them, two temples in a day is enough.

The Afternoon Closure Rule
This is the single most important fact for planning your Ayodhya trip.
Almost every major temple in Ayodhya closes from roughly 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. During this window, the deities are bathed, dressed, and offered bhog. No darshan is possible.
| Temple | Morning Darshan | Afternoon Closure | Evening Darshan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ram Mandir | 6:00 AM – 12:00 PM | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM | 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM |
| Hanuman Garhi | 5:00 AM – 12:00 PM | 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM | 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM |
| Kanak Bhawan | 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM | 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM | 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM |
| Nageshwarnath | 5:00 AM – 12:00 PM | 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM | 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM |
What This Means: Your darshan happens in two windows — morning and evening. The afternoon is for lunch, rest, and travel.
Best Time to Visit Ayodhya

Conclusion
How many days are sufficient for Ayodhya? For most pilgrims, 2 days is the answer. It covers the Ram Mandir, Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan, Mani Parvat, Sugriv Kila, and the Saryu Aarti without rushing.
But if you want more — if you want to sit at the ghats, explore the hidden temples, and combine Ayodhya with Varanasi or Prayagraj — then 3 to 5 days is better.
My honest recommendation? If you are coming from far, take 2 to 3 days. If you are combining with Varanasi, take 4 to 5 days.
But whatever you choose, do not rush. Ayodhya is not a place to tick off a list. It is a place to sit, to breathe, to listen. The temples will still be there tomorrow. The Saryu will still be flowing. Take your time.
Jai Shri Ram.
